“Hey, so lets shoot in the afternoon early evening, it’s going to be a hot one next Monday”
” Yeah sure, sounds good”
Little did we know it was going to be 38 degrees, hot, muggy and just downright disgusting, but that didn’t stop our shoot going ahead!
First stop. Bridge Hotel in Richmond, now if you’ve never been here, then I highly suggest you go! It’s a pub that’s separated by an old bluestone cobbleroad. Restaurant on one half and pub on the other with these mock window sills that were a joy to take photos around. Felt like we were in 3 different venues not one.
My favourite part of this venue was the staircase to the beer garden, it has this Salvador Dali-esque floating structure that was too good to pass up!
I should say who I was shooting! Darcy Fox, a musician from the gippsland area, who’s moved to Melbourne to make her dream of playing music to pay the bills, a reality.
After we braved the heat in the pub, drinking a cheeky pint of cider each, we moved on to the Fitzroy Gardens.
by now it was around about 6:30pm and the heat still hadn’t faltured, we powered on and took some photos in the mini fern gully and then wandered on to find some overgrown cobblestone steps.
After wandering around for about another hour and a half we decided to leave and shoot our final leg of the photoshoot at Darcy’s lovely unit, climbing up a narrow and tight staircase we got to the top to a rooftop hills hoist – which mind you is quite the odd place for a clothes line but it made for a great prop/action piece for the last few portraits!
All in all a great shoot, I’d love to work with Darcy again, and if you haven’t had a chance to see her check out her music on the links below!
